As well as the impact on flora and fauna, noise and air pollution and the geological components of the ground that needed excavation were two more environmental constraints the design team had to overcome for the Eastlink project to go ahead with construction.

One of the biggest constraints that the design team encountered was the Mullum Mullum valley which is located in the suburbs of Donvale and Park Orchards, Ringwood North and Warrandyte. Our camera couldn’t take photographs of that area since it was blocked by various buildings. Existing reserves near the Mullum Mullum Park that would be affected by the Eastlink Project include the Schwerkolt Cottage, Antonio Park and Yarran Dherean reserves. This money was spent setting up the park and protecting the flora and fauna native to the Mullum Mullum Park. This was to encourage more visitors to the area, and since the tunnels pass underneath without disturbing the bushland above it, they can enjoy the surroundings without disturbance.
